They have made their cities
Functional and swift.
You cannot have your April
Virginal and solitary
Any more.
She comes screaming
And tittering
In purple and red flowers
Along the landscaped park;
She has blattant breasts
And the bright lipsticked mouth
Of a Broadway chorus girl.
She is featured lately
In a lownecked silk blouse
On the cover of Life magazine.
(Sylvia Plath, The Journals of, 1950 - 1962)
